Kindergarten Scholars are Ready to Go!

We have been really working hard the last month on our procedures.  The kindergarten scholars have quickly picked up how to do rotations for ELA and Math.  The day flies by because they are actively engaged the entire day!  We have been working on the letters K, L, M, N, P, R, S, T, A as well as the sight words I, like, the, and.  The scholars have begun touch reading (tracking print) and writing their first sentences.  Next week we will begin attaching sounds to those letters now that we know how to name them and form them.  Take a sneak peek...

HOMEWORK

We have been working on the letters Kk, Ll, Mm and Nn.  Please be sure to review these letter names with your child.

Also, please have your child write their first and last name each night 3x.  We are looking to see that the children can write their names correctly by the end of the month!

Thanks for your partnership!

First Week Success!

Walking in the hall with "bunny tails and bubblles"
We had a successful first week in kindergarten!!  The students are learning the procedures of both the classroom and school and seem to be enjoying their time at Orchard.  Orchard is a responsive classroom so the children have been learning how to respond to our chime.  The is used to signal the students for a transition.  We have taught them to "squeeze and freeze" when they hear the chime. The chime is used in the classroom as well as in the lunchroom daily.

We did daily activities with stories celebrating the first days of school such as "A Pocket Full of Kisses", "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" and "Chrysanthemum".  The scholars worked on "Do Nows" that helped strengthen finger muscles and fine motor skills.
Math activity to accompany our story "Chrysanthemum" by Kevin Henkes

The scholars enjoyed recess time each day on the playground.  They have begun making friends with their classmates and transitioning to a full day of school!

Coming up this week we are going to jump into sight words.  Our first sight word will be I.  We will be learning how to do our ELA and Math rotations routines as well as starting letter writing and name writing each day.

Stay tuned until next week!!
